Greene County VINE Inmate Coverage
Tennessee’s service is VINE, reached through VINELink. The system provides confidential notice of custody changes reported by participating agencies. TDOC joined the service in 2021, and its FY2021 annual report said all 95 county jails participated at that time. For Greene County, that creates a path for a person whose record begins with the Sheriff’s jail system and another path for a felony offender held or supervised by TDOC.
Coverage does not mean one record follows every handoff. A county-jail contributor and TDOC can maintain separate records. When Greene County transfers a person to state custody, the county entry may change before the TDOC record is ready. A TDOC release to a county detainer may end the state event while a receiving jail record shows continued custody. Search both the sending and receiving agency when an alert names a transfer.
VINE is not a general list of everyone released. It is designed for a specific-person search and notice registration. It does not make a court ruling, certify sentence completion, or guarantee that every agency uses the same status words. Search a Greene County VINE Record
Start with enough information to separate the person from others with a similar name. VINE can accept a name or an offender or TOMIS identifier for Tennessee records. TOMIS is Tennessee’s offender-management number. The identifier is more precise than a name. If only a name is known, compare every identifier and agency detail shown before opening notification options.
The record must fit the correct custody system. Someone arrested in Greeneville will usually be routed to the Greene County Detention Center, not a separate long-term city jail database. A felony transfer can later appear under TDOC. A person released from a short county booking may never have a TDOC entry. These limits keep a missing state result from being mistaken for proof that the county booking did not occur.

For sentenced state offenders, FOIL contains the fuller sentence and release-information channel. VINE focuses on status and notice. - Choose the registration or notification option offered on that record.
- Select one or more live delivery channels, such as phone, email, text, TTY, or an offered app channel.
- Enter the destination accurately and review which events the registration covers.
- Complete the confirmation shown. If a telephone flow requests a PIN, create or confirm it and keep it available for calls.
- Save the agency name and person identifier so a later alert can be checked against the same record.
Do not assume every channel requires a PIN. The retrieved official prose did not establish a universal rule for current web, email, text, and telephone flows. Follow the live screen. If a channel fails, use Tennessee VINE support and register another offered method when suitable.
Greene County Detainer Notifications
Tennessee’s local layer is most valuable during a detainer handoff. A detainer is a request or legal basis for another custodian to take responsibility when the first custody ends. TDOC policy specifically points users back to VINE when a state release sends a person to a Tennessee county facility. In that event, the first record can show a release-related change while the person remains confined elsewhere.
Follow the chain. Save the sending-agency notice, identify the receiving county named in the transaction, and search for the person under that county’s VINE contribution. Then call the receiving facility if the record does not yet appear. Processing lag is possible. A disappearance from Greene County’s live jail portal can likewise lead to TDOC, ICE, another county, or a federal custodian rather than the community.
A county release record should name the destination or receiving agency when that field is public. A court order may explain the legal authority. Taken together, those records prevent a transfer from being mislabeled as final release.
Note: “Left TDOC” and “left all custody” are different claims when a county, federal, or immigration detainer follows the state event.
Greene County Release System Boundaries
VINE is not the only channel, and it does not cover all custody. The Greene County Sheriff’s Cadmus portal is a current-inmate search, not a verified former-inmate archive. If a person drops from it, call the Detention Center at 423-798-1802 and ask whether the event was release to the community or transfer. Request the booking and release record when a lasting document is needed.
For TDOC, use FOIL. It can report incarcerated, probation, parole, or inactive status plus state sentence and release information. A state Release Eligibility Date is not a promised exit. A signed parole certificate, release transaction, or Letter of Discharge gives better evidence of the completed event. The Greene County court file can then explain bond, dismissal, probation, sentence, or another legal basis.
Federal prison custody is outside VINE. Search the BOP locator for a federal prisoner. A past BOP release date and no facility establishes exit from BOP custody only. ICE uses its Online Detainee Locator for current detainees and people released within its limited recent-release window. The U.S. Marshals Service has no comparable public prisoner locator. Use the federal docket or agency records for a Marshals transition.

Confirm Greene County VINE Alerts
